Common SEO mistakes to fix:
- Target a single Keyword Per Page, not 10 keywords per page.
- Put the keyword in the URL - each page should have the keyword targeted for that page. If it doesn't, it will be harder to get that page ranked for that target keyword.
- Put the target Keyword in the Title Tag - The title tag appears at the top of your browser when you're on a webpage.
- Use Meta Description and Meta Keywords correctly - The meta description
is a short description that is used to describe your website in search engine result
listings. Use it to encourage people to visit your website when they find you on the
search engines. Have your target keyword there also. The most common mistake is
putting too many keywords there. Limit to a maximum of 5 to 8 keywords.
- Avoid Bad Keyword Density - Don't use the keyword too much, but use it enough.
The goal should be keyword density of 3% for good SEO.
- Thorough Keyword Research is the basis for SEO success. If you target keywords
with a high level of competition, then your ability to rank highly and get traffic
will be diminished in the short term. Do not target keywords because of low
competition because there may not be enough people searching for that keyword.
Find a balance between the number of searches and the number of websites competing
for that keyword. Google Keyword Tool can help achieve that objective.
- Keyword in Anchor Text - build backlinks aka links back to your website.
Put keywords in the anchor text of the backlink. Example, if "computer repairs"
was the primary keyword for a website, then make sure that computer repairs is
in the anchor text: "Visit the best computer repairs service in town."
- Anchor Text Variety - A target keyword can be the anchor text for backlinks,
but mix and match with other keywords. If you use only the same keywords in the
anchor text of 100 links, search engines will regard this as suspicious and will
penalize your website. So, find 5 other related keywords to use in anchor text
also. The greater the variety, the better SEO results will be.
- Link Source Variety - Many ways to get backlinks. Do not use a minimum number
of link sources. Some only use article marketing for backlinks. Others use social
media. Use a variety of sources for backlinks. The more sources you use, the more
natural the backlinks will appear to search engines, and the higher a site will rank.
- Natural Build Up of Links - Make sure that the number of backlinks your website
gets takes place in a natural way. Getting 300 links in a week will get search
engine attention and they will punish a website accordingly. But 300 links over
the course of a month will appear more natural and they will reward you.
